finder's keepers - the haul.

last night, brianna (basically blogless), and i, went for a little trip to finders keepers.
and it was pretty fabulous!

it'd been ages since i'd been. weekend shifts at work had meant that i'd missed the last one (and basically missed the one before too...) but i thoroughly enjoyed the new location :D much closer to public transport and i didn't get the horrible feeling someone might shove me and i'd end up in the murky waters of docklands!

as usual, i was a little too busy, to actually take photos of any stalls or anything really at all...



with the exception of my drink. with all of the crowds around, it helped calm me down a little ha ha!
i really don't deal well with people in my personal space...

being the first time i'd visited the market since finishing university (and hence, no longer being a poor uni student) i actually got to make a few purchases!

i found the frankie stall quick smart and popped a copy of their 50th issue AND the new diary into my bag.



i bought the diary last year (for this year) and it's been the only diary in my life's history that i've used ALL year! probably because it's so full of cute things

i also found a couple of super lovely sweet william prints. adorable!

they're going to go perfectly with my new work uniform!!!


we finished up, finding beatbox kitchen and having a delicious dinner...

i know that i'v been posting lots of sneaky peeks at the sewing i've been doing for the hen's night i'm helping to organise...
but i swear this is the last of it!



now i'm off to finders keepers for the evening!
and you better believe i'll be knitting up a storm on the train, i'm really excited to get this finished!

i managed to get to finders keepers on sunday after work, just in the nick of time too.
some shenanigans at work meant that i didn't actually get to the market until just before 5! luckily i had knew exactly what i wanted and brianna had let me know where to find it...


i have honestly been eyeing off this little recipe book since the last melbourne finders keepers market. i saw it again at the magnolia square market at the start of the month and from there on out decided it would be mine! the lovely ladies at write to me also popped this little notebook in my bag too. so very generous of them and definitely went a long way in cheering up my day!



on my way to finding the write to me stall (although brianna gave me quite good instructions, i'm very prone to mixing up my left and my right...) i happened past the bespoke stand where i picked up my reading material for the week.
i also spotted the notions stall and had a good chat to rosie and picked up a brooch from her newly named 'wanderlust' collection. it's a little cute AND it smells amazing as it's cut from tasmanian pine. takes me back to campfires and oddly, year 7 woodwork classes...
it made me kind of ridiculously happy to pin this on my cardigan and sniff it all the way to the mother in laws and then out to dinner.

missing out on seeing most of finders keepers this time is making me feel i'll enjoy it even more next time. oh and i've just found out, i'll be able to visit a daylesford makers market soon too. i've just booked in for a girls weekend away on the same weekend in june that it's on! very excited to not only spend time with my lovely female family members and have a good old relax. but also to get to shopping and oohing and aaaahing over pretty handmade goodies.
yes very excited indeed.

now i'm off to get organised for ncb! have to make sure i don't fill up on to much dinner before hand... they have quite magnificent desserts.

today, brianna and i met up in st. kilda for the magnolia square market being held in the st. kilda town hall this weekend.
compared to our last visit, it was much less overcrowded and cramped so a little more enjoyable (even though there were no cupcakes...). i spotted a couple of things i liked (oh those dreaded wanties) but the only thing i ended up buying was a birthday gift for someone else! leaving quite proud of myself, we then did a quick google search and found some oppies not too far away from us and had a bit of a browse and a little bit of a buy.
after a lovely lunch and a stroll around to another opshop (we stopped at scout house on the way. LOVE!) we headed our separate ways home.
after getting home and getting some dreaded housework and dinner cooking done, i'm not feeling at all creative or inspired. this weather is making me crave warmth and cosiness and i know just where i'll find it!

i've been reading it on and off for a couple of months and it is the story of a couple who make a 'seachange' (sandchange?) to a small mexican village from la. it's the second seachange story i've read in recent times and boy does it make me want to pull up my roots and get travelling through the world!
in any case, i thought i'd share as i signed up for megan's book list right at the start of the year, and i've yet to actually finish a book yet! pretty disgraceful considering it's march already!
i've got my next book picked out too...


i found this while we were op-shopping today. my cousin lent me another of rosalie's books many years ago (yes i still have it. yes i suck at life) and i LOVED it! so i'm really looking forward to getting stuck into this one!

finders keepers.

yesterday, after work, i sacrificed a few precious assignment hours (ok, so not much of a sacrifice) and headed into the city for a look-see at the finders keepers market.



i couldn't believe how much there was to look at!!! probably one of the largest markets i'd ever been to but i made sure i looked at EVERY stall.
however all this looking with my eyes meant i didn't take very many pictures at all... but here's a couple i did take, they're mainly of novel things i'd never seen before though...



the print is a little small but this card reads 'craft lady: you can't help but love a lady who isn't afraid to do nanna craft'
brianna spotted it and i thought it was wildly appropriate for me as the boyfriend almost continuously calls me a nanna for carting knitting or crochet everywhere. can't remember who was selling these, anyone?


speaking of the boyfriend, i saw this and couldn't help but think of him. it was just the coolest.
whenever i'm anywhere browsing, i can't help but look at things and see them as amazing presents for other people. anyone else have that problem?
gosh i can't remember who was selling these either! bad memory due to wayyyyy too much to see!


and these? well these were just the bees knees. books with covers made from vinyls. the inside cover was the cover of the record too. i really liked the photo album one!

i had set myself a $20 budget for the day due to looming rent and bills so i didn't really buy anything... but my head is full of dreams so that's a good thing right?
ok well i lied, i did buy one thing...


brianna again spotted it and we both decided we couldn't let it pass...
yes those are knitting needles in my bag... it was a long train ride into the city ok?!
also, just a public service announcement... if you're going to knit on the train, make sure you grab some wool that is in a ball not a skein, otherwise you will have to make it into a ball on the train and people will glare at you when you hit them with your wildly flailing arms trying to untangle the skein and others will stare and laugh.
it took me the entire train trip in, and the tram trip from flinders st AND 10 minutes sitting on a grassy hill in docklands to get it into the ball ha ha. from then on out the knitting wasn't bad though...

i'm off to do start on some exam study as i successfully completed my last undergrad assignment last night (and handed it in this morning before the faculty office opened, therefore on time!!!)

well it was a funday, up until now...

i only have that one section to write, 350 words worth, but writing it feels as painful as pulling teeth.
it's times like these i wonder, how many marks would i lose if i just didn't do it? yes i'm a horrible uni student!

anywho. the sunday prior to awful-assignment writing time was actually pretty great! i worked this morning (ok, not so great) and then headed into the city for finders keepers! more about that tomorrow though when i can get my camera to connect to my computer and pop up some pictures (though not many, i was too awestruck to lift my camera for most of the adventuring)!

flea market finds.

oh my goodness, it's been more than a week? where did all that time go to? damn uni, sucking up all my creativity/opshopping time!



i did however manage to get a little flea market-ing done today. i dragged my brother out of bed and to the kongwak market with me (in my mum's car, which is a manual, LOTS of stalling).



it had been a while since i'd been, but it's the same, a literal treasure trove!




so many little stalls and pockets of second-hand vintagey goodies. and some quite lovely food too. there were two young girls playing folk versions of pop songs with guitars that set a lovely tone for the whole event :D i just wish i wasn't so stressed from the driving to enjoy it a bit more ha ha!



they also had a few organic and local produce stalls, some lovely looking vegies and wine!

unfortunately, rent is due VERY soon, and the rent account is still very empty, so apart from a snag in bread, i left the market empty handed.


my flea market find is actually a garden that was down the road a little from the market.



i thought it was a community type garden at first, on second looks though, i think it's actually a little close to the house to be a community garden. i had a sneaky wander through anyway. i figure if you didn't want people wandering through, you'd put up fences right?

and it was certainly mad.



ms. rolling in fabric and i arrived at about 10.30am. and started our day off with a nutritious breakfast.
then we battled the MAD and ridiculous crowds (full of DEADLY prams and strollers) to look at all the pretty and creative things that were on offer.

brianna quite fancied these two necklaces.

and we both drooled over the silhouette cutouts from delilah devine.



i bought this cute ring from dames and divas,


and some chilli sauce for my lovely boyfriend from yarra valley gourmet foods.



we soon decided that we'd had enough of the crowds and the crush and headed to oakleigh for a little opshopping. after a couple of hours of browsing (and some book buying at dirt cheap books), we headed back to my place for some lunch.



monster sausage rolls with salad. mmmmmmmm. just what we needed after a big shopping day :D
